Hi,
I'm a freshmen student in high school and I've been interested in film making for a while now. I'm very curious about what it takes to be a successful film maker. What courses would help in high school, what is it like to be a film director, etc. The basics. If any of you have any sort of information that would be of help to me can you please respond?
Thank you,
Dolly Kamboj

Hi there
as you can see there is not much help for younger and more less experienced film makers on here as the main topics are about peoples favourite films and that sort of thing.
but keep searching the net for help

That s damn wrong, Chris! Just try to use the search engine and you ll find very helpfull topics on technical issues..
And as for your question, girlkool, you re not the first to ask.. It s almost a silly question so huge is the answer. I d go with advising you to use this very forum (search) and read a couple of serious or less serious magazine ("total film"?s real thing seems pretty good) plus "american cinematographer" (http://www.cinematographer.com) plus anything that can interests you..
you ll find school adresses on http://www.reelscreen.com and http://www.reelmind.com
PS. to be a successfull director, you have to work hard, be inspired and dynamic enough not to have to ask how to become a successfull director. Just kidding.. nethertheless, try to ask yourself WHY you want to be a director. Because if you don t know what it takes, it could mean you don t know what you re getting into..
Looking forward to hear from you.. see you..

The topics are not mainly about favourite films. Go and look at the list and you will see how stupid that comment was.
People here try to answer questions as and when they appear. This just happens to be a hard question.
Try this.
It isn't exactly what you were looking for but it kinda lets you know what you're in for.
Don't let it put you off!

Well the 'fun' topics get the most responses cos everyone has something to say there.
Virtualy all filmmaking questions get an answer, and I'm sure everyone answers questions when they can.
I always help if I can but I am new to filmmaking so I don't have much to give.
